Heritage Bank to Refund Mercy Eke N100million.

Bello Hassan, the managing director of the Nigeria Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) on Wednesday promised all customers of Heritage Bank that their deposit in the bank would be paid to them within seven days as against the 30 days period permitted by law.  

During a media briefing in Abuja, the Managing Director of NDIC, Bello Hassan said the corporation would not take 30 days as stipulated by law but would settle all Heritage bank customers within one week, while he also outlined the processes of repayment.

Subsequent to the revocation of Heritage Bank’s license a week ago by the apex bank, Central Bank of Nigeria, the Nigerian Deposit Insurance Corporation (NDIC) has assured depositors at the Heritage Bank that it was already working towards refunding them their money in the bank within the next one week

During a press briefing, the Managing Director of NDIC, Bello Hassan said the corporation will not take 30 days as stipulated by law but would settle customers within one week, while also outlining the processes of repayment.

The Central Bank of Nigeria, CBN, revoked the license of Heritage bank on Monday, June 4th, over its inability to improve its financial performance.

The Board and Management of Heritage bank have not been able to improve the bank’s financial performance, a situation which constitutes a threat to financial stability, the Central Bank said.

The Central Bank also said Heritage Bank had failed in improving its financial performance and had no choice but to revoke its licensure

The revocation of Heritage banks license has come as a surprise to many Nigerians who banked with the bank for many years, leaving most of them stranded and frustrated. One of the customers who claimed he has been seek and had saved up money for his surgery in his Heritage bank account was seen lamenting and crying over the week.

A popular Nigerian influencer and winner of the Big Brother Naija reality TV show, Mercy Eke, said she has over one hundred million in her Heritage bank account.
